Driving Question: "How can I use my passion for music to positively impact my community?"
My goal is to write, produce and record a school song/alma mater for Kihei Charter school. The song will be used for events such as the annual KCS Luau and Graduation, and for athletic events like the sports recognition banquet. The school song will be played long after I graduate to uplift students and give them a sense of school pride, and I will have left my legacy.
Initial Start of my Project My original project was not to make a school song, it was to make 5 regular songs along with an educational video. The video would've been made to educate other kids on how easy it can be to make music, and hopefully inspire them.
But there were many problems with this project proposal that I thankfully realized before it was too late:
Too similar to my Junior Project
Hard to measure inspiration
Wasn't really solving a problem within the community
Why? As a freshman during the cross country meets, I would see the Maui High team sing their own schools alma mater, and I wondered why we didn't have one. We are no longer a half strip mall school, half laundromat anymore, so I assumed we had one. Until I found out that some students tried to make one, but they just couldn't because it was just too hard.
Also, I noticed that people in my grade lack school spirit. I thought that by making this school song, I would help students feel more school pride.
