Hawaiian Hero's was a semester long project where we researched a person who had any significance to Hawaii. Whether that person was a Hawaiian lawyer, warrior, doctor, surfer, etc... We all picked our own Hero and did heavy and extensive research on them. My hero was Patsy Mink who was female politician and made several extremely influential laws. We were tasked to write essays, make drawings, write diaries, and schedule several arguments. These arguments were with other people and we were supposed to argue whose hero was more important to Hawaii. We had more planned for the year but sadly the final argument was the Final Grade.
With this project, its main purpose was to build and strengthen my research skills. I not only used the web to find my answers, but also Hawaiian dictionaries and encyclopedias. I think this project was a good early introduction to how extensive and hard researching can get sometimes, but it definitely prepared me for the rest of high school.
