Name of Assignment: Module 8 - Sociology Subject: Sociology 100 Professor: Jaqueline Perry
Description of Work/Assignment: We were assigned to research a change made by non-Hawaiians, and the impact of that change on the Hawaiian culture/Hawaii. Write about it in 500 words or more. I chose to talk about the test bombings on Kaho'olawe and how they severely impacted the Hawaiian culture
Which 21st Century Skill do you feel this assignment addresses, and why? I used global awareness skills because I understood the inner-workings of all cultures during this 3-week module. I was able to understand the thinking, motivations and history of the Hawaiian culture through my thorough research.
What are you most proud of from this assignment, and why? I am most proud of the grade I got on it. I was also proud of my writing, and so was my professor. She said it was "an exceptionally well-written forum".
How did you develop and/or improve upon your 21st Century Skill with this assignment? This skill is very new to me so It took some time to develop it. I developed it by successfully presenting the Hawaiian culture and how their motivations and "mission" changed as a reacted to the bombings on Kaho'olawe.
What was most difficult about completing this task? The most difficult pat about this module was deciding on what impact I was going to talk about, since there are not many examples I know. I had to talk about something I was semi-familiar with and could talk about on a personal level too.
How could you improve this work? If you could start over, what would you do different? I wouldn't do anything differently. My professor would have said the same thing.
How does this relate to what you have learned in the past? We have learned about cultures, and definitely a lot about Hawaiian cultures. We have also learned about the Kaho'olawe test bombings in 7th and 8th grade
How can you apply this to future learning? I can apply this to my learning by using the global awareness skills I have become more familiar with thanks to this module
